Super skiing in Megeve!

Bluebird days, powder skiing and balneo-spa all on a short ski break

Headed out to Megeve last week for a ski weekend in the French Alps to be greeted by 20cm or so fresh snow. Lovely! Having got up fairly bright and early and grabbed our ski gear we headed up to Mont d'Arbois and the Mont Rosset field. Heading left through the trees we had some lovely off-piste, frozen underneath and fluffy snow on top - perfect. We even skied all the way down to the bottom of the Princesse bubble. This was a bit of an error as the snow was pretty thin down there but we got away without too many goudges on the skis! The sun came out which was lovely and we headed to Le Tremplin for lunch, a new one for us, near Le Croix chairlift. Lovely room and good service. The food was trying to be high end and not quite making it in our opinion but definitely worth a visit. After lunch we headed to Communaille and skied the field, fording the two streams at the bottom, very adventurous. Followed by a ski through the trees all the way down off-piste to Le Plannellet and then because we couldn't be bothered to take the bus, all the way down under the Chamois bubble into Megeve itself.  A great day and a great start to a weekend in the French Alps!

The next day in Megeve we headed to Jaillet for a ski with Steve, Jenny (deputy resort manager and administrator) and their daughter, who was visiting. We headed off skiing into the trees at Giettaz as the off-piste was still fresh. Glorious run down but we went slightly the wrong way and came out too low for the mid-station so ended up skiing all the way down to the bottom and being late for lunch - oops! Lovely lunch as always in the Bonjournal - Tartiflette, I felt I'd earnt it! After lunch, John and I hurried back as we wanted to finally try out the balneo-spa at the sports centre in Megeve. It's been open a couple of years but is a bit pricey. Still, seeing as this was our kid free ski weekend in the French Alps we thought we'd give it a go. I really enjoyed it. Lovely bubbly things everwhere, you can swim inside and outside and watch the sun setting over the mountains and the stars coming out, very relaxing. Even braved the sauna and hammam which was so steamy you couldn't see the door! Definitely recommended. As it was staff night off we tried to go to the new Soleil d'Or five star hotel roof terrace bar for a cocktail but it was full. Ended up in the Au Couer de Megeve instead in front of the log fire which was lovely. St. Georges for dinner which is always a good bet. The final day of our ski weekend in the French Alps was bluebird skiing at it's the best and of course the Gouet for lunch - can't miss out on that one. Next ski weekend in the French Alps, of course to Megeve, is in March.  Can't wait!
