Lots of snow

It gives us huge pleasure to welcome back previous employees and their families.  This year we have had Ben  (barman about 21years ago) and his 7 year old son, Hugo;  Jude and George (both chalet hosts last year and four years ago respectively) Alice's parents (chalet host 11 years ago and now a doctor with a baby son) and Phil (hotel rep 11years ago).   Phil did two seasons and married Becs, the chef from the RP and they now have two sons, Bertie and Henry.  

We skied most of Mont D'Arbois with Phil on Sunday and had lunch at the Gouet, of course.  On Monday we all went to Jaillet and as we came up the lift at Giettaz it started to snow.   We had lunch at the Bonjournal and then skied home as it was snowing hard.  It snowed all the rest of the day and most of the night.   It was up to my knees this morning as we walked to the lift.  

Yesterday John and I went over to Mont D'Arbois to ski the off piste.  Phil stayed on Rochebrune with a friend Kevin who is teaching in Les Houches, and we met them for lunch at the Radaz.  The snow was almost too deep.  We needed a steep gradient to get moving.  Kevin commented that there was much more new snow in Megeve than Les Houches.  Odd as its only the next ridge along between here and Chamonix.

We skied under the Mont Joux chair and then skied the off piste at Croix de Christ which was lovely.  We rarely ski these  runs as they get skied out so quickly but this time we did it three times so we had a very good morning.   The top lift at Cote wasn't running and we assume it's because they didn't want anyone skiing off the back where there are avalanche chutes.

Today we had a gentler day. We spent the morning with one of our staff introducing her to some gentle off-piste.  Still fresh tracks to be found on the north facing slopes.  Then we came home for lunch via our favourite field - there were about 4 tracks already in it ahead of us.

This is the last week of the French holidays and we have already noticed the queues have virtually disappeared and pistes are empty - hence finding fresh snow 3 times down the Croix du Christ bowl  Next week we shall be back to normal!   Its forecast to snow again tomorrow night and for most of the weekend.
