The Vallee Blanche

The longest, highest run in Europe, runs from the top of the Aiguille du Midi cable car for 22 km into Chamonix and offers the most incredible views of pinnacles, ice cliffs, caves and crevasses.

Numbers and weather permitting, we will arrange for a qualified and experienced mountain guide to lead a party down this spectacular glacier - usually from about mid January - before then the crevasses are not full. There are various ways down, but the ordinary route is not steep, blue/red gradient. However, it is only pisted by other skiers, so you need to ba able to handle deep snow and/or moguls. You must be able to turn and stop where the guide directs.

We ascend to an altitude of 3800 metres and skiing on unpisted snow can be quite tiring, so you do need to be fit. At the end, you will see (and feel) how the glacier has receded - there are now several hundred steps up to the lift out.

If you've never viewed glaciers before, we strongly recommend it. Trips will be arranged in the resort.

If you want to do it, please let us know on your first day in the resort and pay the fee. Unfortunately we have found that people say they want to do it, but then change their mind. So now we will not book a guide until we have cash from at least 4 people. You must be prepared to go on whichever day the guide recommends. If the trip is not possible because of bad weather or any other reson, your money will be refunded.
