The traditional Savoyard town of Megeve is still occupied by many of the original families such as the Perinets and Grossets but has all the amenities of a modern town.
The centre of Megeve is pedestrianised around a 13th century church, with
interesting narrow streets to explore and a wide variety of boutiques,
delicatessens, bars and restaurants.
Megeve is basically a French resort, although more overseas visitors are starting to discover its charms. There are no huge hotels and the resort does not cater for the mass market.
Come and visit between 12th and 14th July and enjoy hearing traditional jazz music as you wander through
the cobbled streets. Different bands from all over the world compete to win the Megeve Jazz competition.
Later on in the evening when the "serious" business of the day is done, the musicians often meet to jam together
in the central square. For something to really get the pulses racing come and watch the showjumping competition in the Palais des Sports car park from 24th-28th July. Really a spectacle worth viewing.

Megeve is also great
for families and those who want to inject a little excitement into the holiday.
There is a special activity pass that covers the lifts, the sports centre and swimming pool and many other
leisure activities (see sporting summer in the alps).
For those of you who enjoy a little pampering there are a range of spas and beauty
treatments and many other more relaxing ways to spend your time (see relax in the Alps).
The special Megeve ambience: We cannot explain it but it's partly the charm of the resort, the friendliness of the Megevans, the wide range of interesting things to see and do, and of course the wonderful restaurants both in the town and on the mountainside, with their fabulous Savoyard specialities.

How do you pronounce Megève?
Megeve is pronounced with a soft G and ends like Kev. In this website
we have removed the accent on the second e (except in the heading
above) because some web browsers do not display accents properly.
