Snow report for the Megeve region

Another smattering of snow over the weekend to give a great freshner to the slopes. That will make about 1.5 metres fallen over the last 10 days. There is another 20 cm forecast over the next few days and temperatures are falling. It's going to be chilly, -20 degrees forecast overnight later on in the week. There is now a huge base of snow, so should be a really great season.

Snow has been falling off and on all week. We've lost track of the depth but the drive up to the Sylvana is not passable in a van! More snow is forecast over the weekend and it's due to get very cold so wrap up warm on the slopes. The resort is due to open tomorrow. Should be fantastic conditions.

Its true that with much of the Megeve skiing on pasture, you don't need much snow to have a great time. That was certainly the case last year and the Megeve pisteurs are amongst the best in the Alps keeping the pistes in good condition despite last winter's low snowfalls.

Did you know?

Skiing in Megeve is mostly on pasture, so just a few centimetres of snow are sufficient for good skiing, unlike in many high resorts where a metre of snow is needed to cover the rocks.

High resorts are often closed due to high winds and avalanche risk. Typically each year for about 15 days, half of Chamonix is skiing in Megeve because the lifts there are closed.
