Megeve in the Summer - an activity holiday in the French Alps!

Love Megève in the Winter? Well, just imagine Megève in Summer!

Summer in the French Alps surrounded by mountains - what could be better?!

Lush, green valleys full of beautiful flowers, the picturesque chalets of Megève bedecked with overflowing flower boxes…and the towering white mass of Mont Blanc dominating the background.

Lots of things to do in/around Megeve to make a real Summer activity holiday:

Find a whole new range of activities:

Day 1 - Head to the lift office or tourist office to purchase your Megeve pass which offers unlimited access for 7 days to the leisure centre, the summer luge, the mountain cable cars, the buses and a variety of other sports. Costs 45E/week for adults and 20E/week for children. Then take the Rochebrune cable car to the top of the mountain and walk along the ridge to Cote 2000, enjoying the fantastic scenery and wild flowers. Have lunch at the charming Radaz restaurant serving the regional specialities of Tartiflette or Diots and then amble down the mountain to catch the bus back to Megeve (or walk back along the valley if you're feeling active!).

Day 2 - Stroll down to the town for a morning coffee in the picturesque village square and then continue on to the summer luge. Take the chair lift up, grab your sledge and head off down the fibreglass chute as fast as you dare! In the afternoon, why not have a splash in the glorious open air swimming pool, or a slide down the water slides.

Day 3 - Hire mountain bikes and grab the cable car for a day enjoying the numerous trails both up and down the mountain. See the VTT mountain bike map for details. Don't forget to take your swimming things as many mountain restaurants also have small open air pools for a quick cooking plunge!

Day 4 - Take a break and have a slightly more relaxing day. Head down to the Plein d'Eau at Combloux, the village below Megeve. This is a man made swimming lake that is naturally filtered. It is set on a plateaux that looks out to the Mont Blanc range so you can swim along looking at fantastic views. It's not heated and is open from mid-June to the beginning of September. There is no shade but you can take a parasol or you can hire one there. There is a good restaurant with great ice creams. Click for details. An alternative which is free, although not as picturesque, is the lake at Passy, a village in the valley. It is a public lake with some sand in which the kids can build sandcastles. There is also mini-golf and a low ropes course here.

Day 5 - Hire a mountain guide from the Maison de la Montagne or join in with a pre-organised group, click here and head into the mountains to try your hand at canyoning. Jump into plunge pools, slide down cascades, will your nerve hold?! The guides' office also offers paragliding, white water rafting, rock climing, via ferrata, mountain biking and glacier trekking to name but a few!

Day 6 - So little time and so much left to do! What to choose - horse riding, an 18 hole round of golf at the testing Megeve golf course, test your nerve on the high ropes adventure course at Cote 2000, ice skating or try the climbing wall at the sports centre, fishing at the picturesque Lac du Javen, perhaps a flight over Mont Blanc or a hot air balloon ride, parapenting, tennis or even a quick game of paintball. So much to do - what should you choose? Or maybe a 2 week holiday is really needed to fit it all in!
